All Nippon Airways says 40,000 seat reservations have been cancelled for its regular flights linking Japan and China, amid souring bilateral relations.
ANA president Shin-ichiro Ito on Wednesday revealed the cancellations of the bookings for flights on 17 routes, from September to the end of November.Ito said the cancellations are definitely going to affect his company’s business.
He said that demand from tourists will probably decline for a while and that ANA will use smaller aircraft for the time being and move its bigger planes to other routes.
Japan Airlines has also decided to cancel 3 round-trip flights per day linking Japan and China, starting October 10th.
Japan’s transport ministry says 4 Chinese airline companies have also cancelled flights on 4 routes for September and October. The ministry says 56 chartered flights by Chinese carriers were cancelled as well.
