The EU is starting to train special operations soldiers and snipers for the army of Mali where an operation of the elimination of extremist groups has been continuing for three months.

All in all, 3,000 soldiers will be trained. They will gain experience in providing communication in combat conditions, and get artillery and engineer training.

The training will take place at an army centre located 60km from the capital of Mali Bamako. The aim is to train a professional army capable of effectively resisting armed terrorist gangs active in the African Sahel region.
