In a 12-week randomized, double-blind placebo trial of 100 adults with mild knee arthritis, chondroitin (1,200 mg a day) cut knee symptom scores by about half, while the placebo group’s fell by about 6%.

Chondroitin sulfate is a natural part of the mesh that gives cartilage its cushion; this trial tested whether a purified supplement could ease symptoms and help people move better.
