According to Reuters, North Korea has notified China of its plan to carry out another nuclear test this year, with a yield of about 10 kilotons TNT.
Last Tuesday, it detonated a 6-kiloton device, attracting condemnation from a number of countries including the US, China and Russia.
The UN Security Council reacted to Pyongyang’s nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009 by imposing sanctions on North Korea. It continues to urge Pyongyang to return to the six-party Korea denuclearization talks.
