American special services are interested in the possibility of controlling our planet’s climate. The CIA has ordered the National Academy of Sciences to carry out relevant research. This has kindled fear that the Americans are hoping to acquire an offensive climate weapon. The Voice of Russia talked to Alexander Sharavin, the Director of the Institute of Political and Military Analysis, about the potential dangers of ‘weather warfare’ and its effects on environment.
American special services are interested in the possibility of controlling our planet’s climate. The CIA has ordered the National Academy of Sciences to carry out relevant research. This has kindled fear that the Americans are hoping to acquire an offensive climate weapon.
The CIA has channeled $650,000 into a project for studying the capabilities of geo-engineering. Consequently, scientists must study the influence of human activity on weather within 21 months. At the same time, specialists must study the possible threats posed by geo-engineering on national security.
This research itself seems to be quite harmless. However, the fact that it is being financed by the CIA suggests that in reality, the Americans want to develop a climate weapon. It’s quite difficult to say whether this idea is substantiated. The majority of the respondents-experts have refused to make comments on this topic. However, no one dismissed the fact that the military across the world have long dreamt of such weapons. Commenting on the situation, Alexander Sharavin said:
“Over 50 years ago, all leading countries in the world started developing climate weapons. Some countries have made more progress than others. We are aware of recent incidents of changing climate. The problem here is what will be the consequences, rather than whether we can change the climate or not. The most difficult thing in this area is to forecast the final result. In view of this, no one can describe all the activity in this area as attempts to develop weapons. Moreover, the American government allocates only a small sum for carrying out research in this area. The sum is several hundred thousand dollars. This is a ridiculous figure for the development of a new weapon,” Alexander Sharavin said.
Meanwhile, there was an incident when the U.S. used environmental warfare for the sake of achieving success. It happened during the Vietnam War. At the time, the Americans launched the Popeye operation. During the rainy season, American aircraft sowed silver iodide crystals on the clouds. As a result, rainfall increased three-times, while the duration of rain increased 1.5 times. After such rains, roads and paths used by the guerillas to supply ammunition and weapons turned into muddy fields.
Truly speaking, at the time, experts discovered that such methods are very expensive and produce short-term effect. Nevertheless, the Americans still believe that a climate weapon can be used against their enemies. In September last year, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that the country’s enemies were causing drought in the Islamic Republic. Before that, former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez accused the U.S. that it was involved in triggering earthquakes in China and Haiti in 2010.
In June 2010, when there were record high temperatures, in Moscow, some blamed the High-Frequency Active Aural Research Programme for the abnormal weather in Russia, says head of WWF Russia’s Climate and Energy Programme, Alexei Kokorin.
“It’s well-known that the HAARP station is located in Alaska. When record high temperatures were in Moscow, there were rumours that this was a result of the activity of the station. This station can in principle drill a hole in clouds at a long distance. It was a different story that no one discovered such a hole during the hot weather in Moscow,” Alexei Kokorin said.
The HAARP programme is a unique project. Similar stations are functioning in other countries, including Russia, in the Nizhegorodskaya Region. The only difference between them is that a large part of the results obtained by HAARP has been classified, and the American Navy is involved in the project. This has led to demonize the station. However, the station was shut down some time ago due to lack of funds.
