(ANSAmed) – NICOSIA, SEPTEMBER 27 – An arrest warrant has been issued against a former Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus who failed to show up at a court hearing this morning, ad Famagusta Gazette online reports. Athanasios Orphanides failed to appear in court in for a case involving bank bonds purchased by a Limassol resident. The former governor is currently in the United States, with local media reporting that an international arrest warrant is being prepared. Orphanides was Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus between 3 May 2007 to 2 May 2012 and a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank between 1 January 2008 and 2 May 2012.
